Woodbine

Brian Crust of Mt Sylvia Fresh Vegetables is advancing a sustainable horticultural business through the integration of both agricultural and environmental management practices.

Through extensive collaboration and partnership development he has undertaken waterway restoration works and put in place on farm infrastructure such as sediment traps and improved drainage. He has been involved in monitoring of nutrient management and soil loss from his horticultural system and has assisted with economic analyses to identify associated cost benefits. He is implementing a controlled traffic farming system to minimise tillage and soil movement while improving overall sustainibility.

Through his involvement in catchment improvement and flood recovery projects along with hosting farm visits and field walks to demonstrate and discuss his farming system with other farmers and industry representatives, Brian is seeking to both develop and share with others a farming system that is both productive and kind to receiving environments.
