2013 Winner: Volunteer of the Year Award

Tony Rice

Woolcock Park Volunteer

A local Red Hill resident for 28 years, Tony Rice feels a certain alliance to Woolcock Park. Concern about the amount of rubbish in the park and debris in Ithaca Creek enthused Tony to become involved with primary school students. Tony has devised a ‘waste’ workshop for primary schools to educate children about the impact of litter, particularly single use plastic, on our waterways and wildlife. The workshop involves children making turtle kites, turtle lanterns and learning about waterway health.  Tony is also endorsing future plans to involve more of the community in celebrating activities for a cleaner environment, such as a “Green” fair.
