Finalist: Sustainable Education Award
Gold Coast Waterwatch, City of Gold Coast Catchment Management Unit and Natura Education
The Waterways Field Guide Project combined the expertise of numerous local experts and organisations to produce a dynamic collection of field guides.
From water bugs to waterway vegetation communities, the field guide collection is the first of its kind to hone in on the importance of our riparian environments and educate youths to take action in preserving them.
The free distribution of these guides to over 50 schools and organisations has provided a first-hand resource to identify species in local catchments, understand the often-complex processes that take place there, learn how to monitor and improve waterways and ultimately develop respect for this vital resource. They also offer opportunities for people to get involved in their local catchment care and land care groups and make a difference on a larger scale.
